Kapunda and Light Agricultural Society Inc.
“We Look Back With Pride & Look Forward With Confidence”
The Kapunda Show was founded in 1857 with the aim to promote agricultural, horticultural and
related resources of the Kapunda & Light District.
Today it is still an Annual Event on Kapunda’s Calendar. Kapunda itself was discovered in 1842. It is approximately 75kms from Adelaide and is proud to be Australia’s first Copper Mine which closed in 1877. When the Mines closed the town became a thriving pastoral area and later the home of noted Cattle King, Sir Sidney Kidman who was instrumental in putting Kapunda on the map with his famous Horse Sales.
Kapunda and District still supports a thriving agricultural community with a population in excess of 3,000 people.
Whilst visiting our Show why not spend time in our town visiting the many attractions we have to share. These include many beautiful heritage listed buildings including the Court House, Old Miners’ Cottages, beautiful Churches and Sir Sidney Kidman’s home, now the Administration Buildings at Kapunda High School.
Visit “The Pines”, a short drive from Kapunda or you can overlook the town from Gundry’s Hill Lookout.
Of course, stop to admire “Map Kernow” or take a drive or stroll through the old Mine area.
Or why not stay over in the beautiful Kapunda Tourist Park?
