KAPUNDA'S HISTORY, AND PLACES TO VISIT WHILE YOU VISIT OUR SHOW

Kapunda was discovered in 1842

Kapunda is approximately 75kms from the GPO in Adelaide and is proud to be the first Copper Mine in Australia's history.

The Mine closed in 1877, and this was known to be one of the very first Australian Mines.

On the closure of the mines, the town became the centre for a thriving pastoral industry and later the home of the famous Cattle King    'Sir Sidney Kidman'

He was instrumental in putting Kapunda on the map again by conducting Horse sales on a yearly basis.

Kapunda and district now supports a thriving agricultural community and has a population of in excess of 3,000 people.

Whilst you visit our Show, why not spend some of your time in our town and visit the many attractions which we have to share.

There are plenty of heritage-listed buildings including

The Court House, Old Miners Cottages, Beautiful Churches and our Sir Sidney Kidman homes.

Kapunda Museum is housed in the Baptist church constructed in 1866 and features extensive displays.

We have an excellent Craft Shop, plenty of parks including "The Pines" which is just a short drive from Kapunda.  You can also overlook the town at

Gundry's Hill Lookout and of course stop and admire "Map Kernow" and visit the Mine Area.
